Hammers & Mallets

Hits the nail on the head

What is a children's hammer?

Many hammers are designed to be especially small and "cute" and are sold as children's hammers. In our workshop, we primarily use 200g hammers. In our experience, a certain weight is necessary to drive the nail into the wood, and a larger hammerhead surface helps with accuracy. The hammers should be gripped in the middle, near the bottom of the handle.

Which hammer is the right one for my child?

Our recommendation for children aged 5 and over is a sturdy hammer with a normal wooden handle and a 200g hammerhead, in a classic shape.

What should I look for in a hammer?

The hammer should be sturdy, not wobble, preferably have a wooden handle, and be well-made. Before starting work, check that the head is firmly attached to the handle and doesn't wobble.
