Of course, tools are not toys and can cause injuries if used incorrectly. A saw cuts, pliers pinch, and a drill can make holes. Therefore, the proper use of tools must be learned, and certain precautions must be taken. That's why our products include an information sheet with tips on how to work safely. Ultimately, adults are always responsible for their children and are best able to assess their abilities. Tools should only be used under direct adult supervision.
The toolbox sources its tools from select wholesalers and directly from manufacturers. Before adding a tool to our range, we have it thoroughly tested by an occupational therapist, our carpenter, and in our workshops. This ensures that the tool is functional, robust, and easy for children to handle. We also manufacture some tools ourselves in our workshop in Altona.
Of course, you can also use your own existing tools to assemble our kits. However, we strongly recommend purchasing high-quality tools. Inferior or blunt tools, often found in "bargain sets," pose a danger to their users. The "Large Tool Set" from the toolbox is particularly well-suited for woodworking with children, as it contains the appropriate tool for every step. All kits can be assembled with this set of tools.
All our tools are real, functional tools. Many are also suitable for adult use. For example, we ourselves really enjoy using our small Japanese saw or the small combination pliers. The tools are often simply a bit smaller.
The kits in the workshop are suitable for all children. The instructions allow plenty of room for individual designs or often offer a choice between different themes. For example, a pirate ship can also become a merchant ship, or a treasure chest a jewelry box.
The craft ideas in the toolbox are wooden construction projects of varying sizes. Some can be completed in an afternoon, while others require several days. Young children, in particular, have shorter attention spans, so depending on their work pace and patience, two to three days may be needed for construction. Of course, this also depends on how quickly and with what attention to detail the individual child builds. Time should also be factored in for painting and decorating.
No. However, a tool license is very helpful for getting to know the tools and developing confidence in using them. The course is very suitable for beginners.
No. The workshops are led by our experienced instructors. Parents simply drop off and pick up their children. They are welcome to stay with the children at the beginning until everyone has settled in.
In contrast, family workshops and open creative workshops allow for collaborative work; these courses are for children with a parent or other accompanying person.
We have a fully equipped children's workshop with tools and safety equipment for each child. We don't recommend wearing your neatest clothes, as glue or sawdust can sometimes get on your sleeves while working.
Depending on the length of the course, children are welcome to bring something to eat and drink.
The recommended age for each of our courses is listed in the description. We recommend most courses for children aged 6 and up, but especially in family workshops or selected craft courses, children as young as 4 can also participate successfully. Incidentally, there's no upper age limit. We intentionally design our workshops to be enjoyable for all ages, ensuring everyone can have fun.
