Zum Schnitzen für Anfänger*innen empfehlen wir die Kindermesser von Opinel, hier bekommt Ihr ein gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.
Bei den feststehenden Messern ist das Werkdachs-Schnitzmesser unser Favorit, gefolgt vom Dino-Messer.

Unsere absolute Empfehlung für Fortgeschrittene ist das Schnitzmesser Mora. Dieses Messer ist auch für Erwachsene sehr gut geeignet, ist sehr scharf und – da aus Carbonstahl – leicht zu schärfen. Allerdings braucht es ab und an etwas Öl, um nicht zu rosten.

Je nach Alter und Erfahrung der Kinder gibt es Messer mit gerundeter oder gerader Spitze.
Als Ergänzung zum Messer eignet sich die klappbare Baumsäge von Opinel als idealer Begleiter beim Spazieren und Grünholzschnitzen.

How do you use the knives for carving?

Create space

First of all, you should create a safe workspace and only carve while seated. No one is allowed to run around or play where you are carving – the carving area is strictly off-limits to everyone else for the duration of the carving. Your legs should be firmly planted on the ground, slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, leaving enough space for carving. The forearm holding the workpiece can rest on your leg. With your legs spread wide, there is enough space between your legs to carve, ensuring that the knife never comes near your legs.

Safe carving technique

Always carve away from your body; the holding hand is always behind the hand holding the knife and as far away as possible from the spot where you want to carve.

To make a deeper carving into the wood, the piece should be placed stably on a flat surface and ideally clamped in place. Carving into wood carries a high risk of injury.

After one carving project, the next one begins

To protect your carving knives and yourself, you should store the knife securely after use. Most of the knives in our shop are therefore foldable and equipped with a locking mechanism to prevent accidental opening. Your carving knife will last longest in a nice case.
